We are faced with a group of cheerleaders who, if Erdoğan were to change his views, would themselves instantaneously do so, perhaps ending up by defending the opposite of what they are saying today. The problem is that the acceptability of any opinion by society is not independent of the character or quality of the defenders of that opinion. Hence the emergence of this sort of group is capable of degrading the objective itself.

In days to come, the AKP will need to build the broadest alliances possible in addition to its own core reserves of power. As a corollary it will need to narrow the target and follow a “broad” line, refraining from being side-tracked into creating new fronts.
Your opinion may be perfectly legitimate in itself; indeed, you may keep defending it forever and ever. However its “realization” is altogether a different move that transcends you. It requires a different ground for legitimation. This is because there are people and groups in society who do not share your stance but who you nevertheless have to live with, who in other words you have to persuade.
